Visiting Stony Brook, NY

Whether you're looking for a romantic weekend getaway or a fun family vacation, Stony Brook has a lot to offer. With some 45 specialty shops and restaurants, and winding pathways, dotted with old fashioned street lamps, the village is a great place to visit. Choose among hotels like the Holiday Inn Express, the historic Three Village Inn and the charming Bayles Estate Bed And Breakfast.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Stony Brook Grist Mill is Long Island's most completely equipped working Grist Mill. The mill is the site of The Ward Melville Heritage Organization's "Dusty Program," a field trip that serves thousands of students a year, and is open to the public from April to December. The "Discovery" Wetlands Cruise is another popular attraction; the boat "Discovery" departs from the Boatworks marina and cruises through the 88-acre wetlands preserve for a 1 ½ hour tour. The Long Island Museum of America Art, History and Carriages has an impressive collection with over 40,000 items dating from the late 1700s to the present, including American artifacts of everyday life, works of art and almost 200 historic carriages. These are just few of the attractions Stony Brook has to offer; enjoy its scenic surroundings, historic atmosphere and rich heritage.
