The Ward Melville Heritage Organization presents Chinese New Year Celebration on February 1st. Drumming, dancers and a nine-foot lion make this Chinese New Year celebration an event to remember! Performances include a Lion Dance by Wu Mei Kung Fu Association, Stony Brook Taiko Drum Ensemble and Spotlight Dance Academy. Reservations required.

The annual festival takes place in the 1000-seat Main Stage Theater at the Staller Center for the Arts, part of Stony Brook University, situated on 1,100 acres on Long Island's North Shore and approximately 60 miles east of New York City. The Stony Brook Film Festival traditionally includes the best in independent film: provocative foreign films, unusual and absorbing American premieres, entertaining comedies and a variety of outstanding short films. In 2009, it will take place for ten days, from Thursday, July 23 to Saturday, August 1.

Santa arrives in Stony Brook Village in a horse-drawn carriage to hear children's wishes; carolers sing and decorated holiday trees light up the center. There will be live music throughout the day and over 60 illuminated trees.
